Instagram Reels Not Working- Here’s the Fixes!

With the recent ban on TikTok, users were looking for an alternative and may have found one in Instagram Reels. Still, there are some users who have reported that their Instagram reels not working. So, if that’s you, in this blog we’ll try and cover some of the possible fixes using which you can start enjoying Instagram reels once again.

If you are new to Instagram Reels, it is a new feature of Facebook owned Instagram that allows you to record videos of up to 15 seconds duration. Plus, it has an ocean of wonderful filters and you can even add your favourite music as well.

Excited, but Instagram Reels music is not working or reels not working on Instagram, worry not! We have got your back. Here are the fixes you can undertake to resolve why Instagram reels not showing or working.

1. Update The Latest Version Of Instagram

Just like in the case of any other app, you might have forgotten to update your Instagram app which might be the reason why your Instagram reels not working. So, quickly go to the Google Play Store and tap on the update button if you haven’t yet.

2. Check Instagram Reels At Following Places –

After updating Instagram, check if you can see Instagram Reels option at the following places –

Place No. 1:

Click on the Camera icon at the top-left corner of the screen and check if you can see the Instagram Reels option at the bottom next to the refresh button

Place No. 2:

Click on the search bar (Explorer option) and check if you are able to see Instagram Reels next to the home icon

Place No. 3:

Head to your stories and check if you can find the Instagram Reels option at the bottom

Place No. 4:

Go to another user’s account and check the reels option next to IGTV. If you are able to see the Instagram Reels on another user’s account, you should have it too

3. Join Instagram Beta Program

Even after updating Instagram, reels not showing on Instagram, here’s yet another way you can resolve the Instagram Reels not working in account. You can sign up for the Instagram beta tester program. For this –

1. Visit the Google Play Store
2. Search for Instagram and click on Open
Scroll down and tap Join button under Join the beta
Click again on Join when confirmation appears
5. Your account will then be added to the beta tester program. This process may take a few minutes
6. Click on Update
Being a beta tester, you should now be able to use the Instagram Reels option in sometime.

Note: It might take 24 hours to 2 days for the Instagram Reels to appear on your Instagram account.

4. Log-in And Log-out Of Your Instagram Account

Even if after updating the Instagram app and even if after having applied for the beta tester program, you are not able to see the Instagram Reels function, you can try logging out of your Instagram account and then re-logging into your Instagram account once again. This step can hold useful especially if you use multiple accounts on your Instagram app.

5. Uninstall And Then Reinstall Your Instagram App

Whether it be an Android or iOS smartphone, if Instagram Reels not working despite having tried all of the above methods, chances are a bug has hit the Instagram app in your smartphone. This can easily be removed or fixed by first uninstalling the Instagram app and then reinstalling it back again.

6. Clear Cache

Many users have reported that by clearing cache, they were able to see Instagram Reels and were able to work with it hassle free. If you are an Android users here are the steps to clear cache

1. Open Settings
Tap on Apps
In the search bar at the top right type Instagram
Under Usage tap on Storage
Now, tap on Clear Cache

You should now be able to the Instagram Reels option

7. Report The Problem

If Instagram reels not showing even after having tried all the tricks under the hat, you can report the issue to Instagram. For raising a complaint –

1. Go to your Instagram account
2. Tap on the three horizontal lines (hamburger icon) at the top left corner of the screen
3. Tap on Settings
Tap on Help
Now, you can Report a problem. When the prompt appears tap on Report a problem
Type the issue. E.g. Cannot see or use Instagram Reels option
7. You even have an option of taking a screenshot of the issue
8. Now, hit the Submit button on the top right

There could be several reasons why the reels features are not working on your Instagram. It could be that you haven’t updated your Instagram app in a while. The accumulation of app cache could be yet another reason why Instagram Reels not working. Try, updating the app and clearing the existing app cache (Settings > Apps > Instagram > Storage > Clear cache ). Once, you have done that, reopen Instagram > Go to your account > tap on the plus icon at the top of the screen and check if you can now see the Reels feature.

How Do I Fix “Something Went Wrong. Please try Again” When I Use Instagram Reels?

A technical glitch could be the possible reason why you are facing the issue. Try, the fixes we mentioned in this blog and you should most possibly be able to fix the issue. You can even try the Force Stop option apart from clearing the app cache something we have already mentioned above. Also, check if you have provided Instagram with all the required permissions. To check these permissions:

1. Head to the Google Play Store
2. Search for Instagram
3. Click on “About App”
4. Scroll down and click on “See more” against the App permissions

    I have two accounts. My main account is having problems when I click on the reels tab. Nothing shows up except a popup saying "we're sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again." But if I switch to my other account, everything works find. So I don't think it's an issue with the app, but just one of the account?

      Hi Toniya Thanks for taking out time to comment on the blog. After updating the app, it might take some time for the change to take place (maybe 24 hours). As for some other ways, you can try clearing the app cache and switching between your personal account (if you have one) and business accounts. You can even try logging out from your existing account, then ask someone else to log in and then again login using your credentials.     hello there, thanks for this article. I'm having the same problem and it has been month of me trying literally EVERYTHING, I'm italian, so I know that they are avaiable in my region. I even tried to make a new account, just to try, and even that one has not the reel option avaiable. Therefore I thought that it was an email problem and so I created another account using another email, and yet... nothing... I really don't know what to do.. I tried contacting Instagram via app, but no responses in month... I think I will never see this feauture...

    I have been able to use reels on insta and having fun with it. The issue is when I try to share it to my FaceBook business page. Tried restarting, updating both apps and still nothing. It goes through the motion of letting me click on the Facebook page. When I press send its say sent but once I check my Facebook page nothing is there. If you have any other suggestions I would welcome them! Best!!

    I am unable to make reels because of the camera lag problem happening in my phone. I have tried in each and every phone available at my house and they are all samsung phones but still the camera keeps lagging. I tried all the methods mentioned above but my camera keeps lagging. My phone is updated too. Please help!!

    Hi, I have 4 accounts of IG. 3 accounts have Reels option and work well the last one doesn't the Reels option. All accounts on smartphone and test also in iOS and Android. I already, try to many differents solutions but no sucess. Could you help?

    I have tried all the above steps several times but still, I am not able to see Reels Option in my account. I have also tried opening my account on some other devices but there also I can't see the Reels Option. Even I have reported to them on "REPORT A PROBLEM" several times but haven't got any response.     Hello. Thank you so much for the help. I went on holiday to Jamaica for 3 weeks and when I came back to the UK, where I live, my reels stopped working. I have tried all of the suggestions you made but none have worked. My Instagram still says my account is based in Jamaica and I am unable to change this. Any help would be much appreciated

      Hi There Hopefully Instagram will come to your aid :D But, meanwhile try signing out and then resigning in... if even that doesn't work for you, uninstall and then reinstall app. And, while you do that make sure to clear your device's and apps (i.e. Instagram's) cache data.
