Google Meet is Showing New Updates Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

Sometimes better things come with a push or a tragic event that can totally change the lives around you. Apps like Google Meet have become the top priority in the COVID-19 pandemic as we all are trying to connect to people virtually on video conferences. Every one of the video call service providers is trying something new to offer the users including attractive UI, easy payout, exciting offers, or god knows what.

Google Meet & What’s New With It?

Google Meet or Meet by Google Hangouts is a part for G Suite that has been introduced as the “Secure video meetings for your business”. The tool keeps you connected with video conferencing that’s been built on secure global infrastructure. Since the name is enough to use the Google Meet without second thoughts as Google already has a good credibility all around the world.

What’s New in Google Meet

It looks like Coronavirus has prompted Google to improve Meet on different levels. Known as hangouts Meet, Google Meet is bringing new Gmail integrations that will consist of Zoom style layout. 

Trying to revamp the user Interface for the video conference calls, Google Meet will let you use 16 video streams in a single grid layout. If you are familiar with other apps, you will know that this update is quite similar to Zoom that has become quite popular in COVID-19 lockdown. Additionally, the users will be experiencing advanced improvements in low light & background noise filtering that will boost the user experience.

The Gmail integration changes can be seen from today, however, the grid layout & video advancements will be enabled from later this month. The company didn’t give any specific dates for rolling out the advancements, however, I believe it shouldn’t be later than this month’s end.

G Meet or Google Meet in Response to COVID-19

All G Suite customers can use advanced Meet video conference features like larger meetings, live streaming, and recording through Sept. 30, 2020.

The General Manager & VP of G Suite (Javier Soltero) talks about the Google Meet planning to help people around during COVID-19 crisis, “Starting this week, we will begin rolling out free access to our advanced Google Meet video-conferencing capabilities to all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers globally including: 

  • Larger meetings, for up to 250 participants per call
  • Live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers within a domain 
  • The ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive

These features are typically available in the Enterprise edition of G Suite and in G Suite Enterprise for Education, and will be available at no additional cost to all customers until September 30, 2020. If you need help getting started, please visit our help center page.”
