Quantum Computer – A Game Changer

Quantum Computer – A Game Changer

We have made great advances in technology but the quench of more power will always be there. Super computer or you can take our smartphones have more computing power than the room size computers of yesteryears. Still, there are some problems that our present generation of computers find it difficult to resolve.
That is why we need quantum computers. As you are aware present computers use a sequence of values of 0 and 1 to represent two states to make sense and take decisions after the results shown as per pre-arranged set of instructions. To resolve more complex problems, we should go beyond these two states. We are sure that Quantum computers are expected to be the tool we are aiming for.

The Limits of Today’s Computer

We are entering the world of big data where the information we need is increasing by leaps and bounds. So, we need more ones and zeros and transistors to process it. At present, computers are limited to doing one thing at a time, so, complex problems will take longer time that may not be affordable next time. Quantum computers are predicted to resolve a problem that requires more power and time than today’s computers can accommodate.

The Power of Quantum Computer

Things begin to behave in unexpected ways in the world of atomic and sub-atomic particles. Actually, these particles can exist in more than one state at a time. Quantum computers is looking forward to use this advantage.
Our present conventional computers use bits whereas a quantum computer uses quantum bits. They are known as qubits. To understand the difference between bit and qubit, take the case of a sphere. A bit can be at either of the two poles of the sphere, but a qubit can exist at any point on the sphere. This shows that a quantum computer will use less energy to store large amount of information than a present-day computer. That means we can make faster processors. That also means quantum computing will also be complex. This is a big challenge.
The computer industry is feeling the pressure and must find ways to make more efficient computing. It is estimated that we will no longer have the capability to power all the computers of the world.

Quantum Computing will change our World

You have already witnessed the changes; the computer technology has brought till now. It has revolutionized our world. Now, we are entering a new world where the laws of physics will take a spin. We just cannot imagine the exceptional possibilities when we have the processing power of qubits. Quantum computers have the potential to perform certain calculations significantly faster than any silicon-based computer. Scientists have already built basic quantum computers that can perform certain calculations; but a practical quantum computer is still years away.

Conclusion

We know it for sure that it will be game-changing event for every industry. IBM and Google and some governments are investing heavily in quantum computing technology. They are expecting quantum computing to allow us to solve problems and experience efficiencies that aren’t possible today. Our computer industry is also racing against time to make quantum computers work on a commercial scale. This will pay extraordinary dividends.
