A handheld transceiver, Walkie-Talkie has been one of the most popular ways (modern world) to communicate with your dear ones. However, gradually technology has flooded with so many alternatives that we forgot Walkie-Talkie completely; until, Apple WatchOS 5 came along.
Using the latest Apple Watch operating system, users can use another communication that will let them use the Walkie-Talkie app.
Use Walkie-Talkie on your Apple Watch
Already we can use Apple Watch for various reasons including receiving phone calls as well as responding on iMessages. Now, with the launch of WatchOS 5, an additional communication alternative has been added to your list that is Walkie-Talkie audio chat app. Let’s check out the cool ways to use Walkie-Talkie on your Apple Watch:
Before starting to use the cool app on your Apple Watch, the prerequisite would be setting up the walkie-talkie on your watch. Let’s set the audio chat app up on the Apple Watch:
“In order to use Walkie-Talkie, you and your friend need Apple Watch Series 1 or later with watchOS 5.3 or later. Also, both the parties need to set up the FaceTime app on your iPhone with iOS 12.4. Please know that the Walkie-Talkie app isn’t available in all countries or regions.”
The process of using the Walkie-Talkie on Apple Watch has been categorized in two segments that include adding friends to the app & accepting Walkie-Talkie invitations:
1. How to Add Friends to The Walkie-Talkie App:
There are a few simple steps that will make you audio chat with your friends in no time as below:
- Start by opening the Walkie-Talkie app on your Apple Watch & tap on “Add Friends”
- Choose any of the contacts you want to send the invitation to & then keep on choosing from the list.
- Now you wait until your friend/friends accept the Walkie-Talkie invitation.
Please know that your friend’s contact card will be GRAY till the time the invitation is pending to be accepted. Once the color changes to YELLOW, you are all set to audio chat with your friend.
2. Accept a Walkie-Talkie invitation
There aren’t any steps specifically as you only need to tap on the “Always Allow” notification that pops up when anybody sends you an invite on the app. In case you couldn’t see the notification & missed it, you can check it in Notification Center.

3. After accepting the invitation, Let’s start Walkie-Talkie conversations
Once both the parties have added themselves, let’s start an interesting conversation.
- Open the Walkie-Talkie app on Apple Watch & tap on any of the friends you want to talk to.
- Now touch & hold the talk button, say the introductory/greeting words, & that’s it. Your friend hears you instantly & responds the way she/he does normally.
Due to poor connection, sometimes you may experience “connecting” on the Apple Watch screen after saying your part but as long as it gets connected to the internet, you are live again.
What if You Are Unavailable When Someone Wants to Talk?
There are situations where any of your friends wants to talk to you. In those cases you can turn the Walkie-Talkie on or off. If you are unavailable, you get a notification if you’d want to talk.
Also, you can just go to the Control Center & tap on the Walkie-Talkie app to switch it on or off.
