Coronavirus (COVID-19) Affects E3 2020 Big Time

We all know how COVID-19 has affected everyone throughout the world. From as routinely as going for school to as grand as Mobile World Congress 2020 (MWC 2020) getting canceled. We are glad that CES 2020 (Consumer Electronics Show 2020) was successfully executed; however, a few names like LG & Sony backing out from MWC 2020 due to Corona fear, and, certainly, we can’t blame them.

COVID-19 affect

Coming to existence in the early stage of the year, COVID-19 has affected industries big time and continues to do so. A lot of the big tech giants have started taking major actions like asking employees to work from home or be at home till the time the effect decreases.

Now, the next effect could be on E3 2020 or Electronic Entertainment Expo 2020, as there are many speculations on the show being canceled due to Coronavirus.

What is Electronic Entertainment Expo 2020 (E3 2020)?

Worldly known as E3, Electronic Entertainment Expo is one of the giant events that take place around mid-year every year. Just as Consumer Electronics Show, it is all about tech breakthroughs, MWC is about mobile tech, the video games categories have dominated E3 2020.

E3 Expo

It’s an event organized by the Entertainment Software Association showcases all the new & futuristic video games getting advertised. The platform is being used by many professionals, including developers & hardware manufacturers who introduce their upcoming games.

The trade event for video games takes place at the predetermined location i.e., the Los Angeles Convention Center in the United States of America.

E3 2020 & COVID-19

Now due to COVID-19, many events have been preponed, postponed, & canceled altogether. However, Electronic Entertainment Expo is still not backing out on the show. The probabilities are the show is after 3 months till the effect goes down, and the audience wishes it to happen.

Everything was going smooth for E3 2020 when out of nowhere, Ars Technica confirmed about the event being canceled. Apparently, one of the ARS Technica sources heard the news about gaming expo getting canceled. The source further added the public announcement of the expo was supposed to be released yesterday (03.10.2020); however, it slipped.

Similarly, Devolver Digital (an American video game publisher), announced on Twitter as “Cancel your E3 flights and hotels, Y’all.”

Twitter E3 Cancellation

The tweet had just made people go haywire as a lot of the game lovers were looking forward to new releases & news for their favorite games.

Everyone is having doubts about whether the event will take place or not & it’s due to the spreading and non-recoverable Coronavirus disease. For now, no one from the ESA released any official statement about the event being canceled or denying the news of the cancellation of the E3 expo.

The ESA About E3 Expo & COVID-19:

The way every big event keeps the users updated with the venue, plans, and locations, similarly the Entertainment Software Association does.

Though the association hasn’t released any statement for postponing or canceling the event, on March 04th, they stated on their website:

“The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, partners, and staff is our top priority. While the ESA continues to plan for a safe and successful E3 show June 9-11, 2020—we are monitoring and evaluating the situation daily.”

“Our E3 team and partners continue to monitor COVID-19 via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). We are actively assessing the latest information and will continue to develop measures to further reduce health risks at the show.”
