Microsoft’s Fluid Framework: The Birth Of New Generation Documents

Impermanence is the law of the universe because change is necessary to adjust to a new environment and to get along with the new beginnings for a better future. Same concept applies in the digital world and soon as a result, we will see the all-new Microsoft Fluid Framework which is a new incarnation of the old school and monotonous Office Document.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the work from home culture is in trend and the use of Microsoft Office has proven to be a life saver. But if we think a step ahead, we will notice that there were some lags in Microsoft Office like using different apps for different purposes and then the task was not easy to collaborate them to share with others, but users were so habitual to work with it that they totally ignored this difficulty.

Keeping all this in mind last year in September 2020 Microsoft announced the public preview of Fluid Framework for organizations and individual developers as an open-source project. The Microsoft Fluid Framework is not the conventional tool that allows you to generate work productivity but it is much more than one can imagine because of its real-time features. With the whole new concept of collaborating the documents of different apps, this new technology is making its place among users. It was put up for a free trial (by organizations and developers) and the regular feedback was taken by them. In the reviews as feedback from such entities, it was clear that the new Fluid Framework has unlocked the incredible features that are fruitful for working professionals creatively and is more approachable.

Microsoft’s Fluid Framework:

Fluid components have various forms like charts, tables, task lists etc. which are imbibed in a single document. The reason which sets it apart is, if you want to edit any particular component in the document, then you can do it in the document itself without opening the component in another tab of the browser and then adding the edited component in the same doc.

Fluid is unbelievably fast and responsive which allows several people to make changes in the components. Once the document is created and  amendments are made, then you can share the doc via  email or chat or it can be pasted anywhere you like. Like this, the data is easily shared with the option to edit it in real-time on an open platform.  Moreover,  the actions/changes made by anyone who has access to the doc will be visible to everyone, hence the transparency is maintained.

Benefits of Fluid Framework: –

  • It is as easy as working in an office
  • Built-in notes which will show up in team meetings or  outlook calendar
  • Invite others to collaborate
  • Facility to tag people by using @mention feature to assign any task
  • All the edits made to the live component will be immediately visible to all who have access to the doc.
  • Made sharing ideas and making changes in real-time easy
  • Dates inserted act as the tracker to meet deadlines
  • The checklist feature helps in checking off the task, once it is accomplished
  • You can use it as a shared meeting space
  • Projects can be managed by multiple users
  • Poll the team
  • Can create a personal to-do list
  • Content from other line-of-business applications can be added

Fluid is available for the developers and organizations but it will be rolled out very soon targeting Office.com and Outlook on the internet and then in a later stage it will be available on Microsoft Tools on desktop.

All these features packed in one tool is overwhelming but let’s wait and watch how well it works once it’s available for everyone.
