Your WhatsApp Messages aren’t deleted even though you think you’ve deleted them before the receiver reads them. Surprised!

The new feature introduced by WhatsApp that lets you delete messages before you or the recipients read them has its own shortcomings. First, the recipient gets to know that the message is deleted as “This message was deleted” message is displayed. Second, you can recover them using certain tricks or third-party apps.

How To Read Deleted WhatsApp Messages?
1. Using WhatsApp chat backup to read deleted messages
This option is pretty easy, and I guess most of you must know about it. WhatsApp by default backs up all messages at 2 am every morning. If you are lucky enough, you can use this backup to restore and read deleted WhatsApp messages.
Say if you receive messages during this time or it wasn’t deleted before 2 am then chances are you have a backup of the messages.
To get these messages, you’ll need to uninstall WhatsApp first and then reinstall it.
Once you do that you can restore all the backed-up WhatsApp chat including deleted WhatsApp message. To restore deleted WhatsApp chats, use the following steps:
- Uninstall WhatsApp chat messenger.
- Next, if you are using an Android phone head to Google Play Store to reinstall WhatsApp. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
- You will now see an option to restore chats from a backup.
- Tap Restore.
This will help to get back all backed-up WhatsApp messages that include deleted WhatsApp messages.
In addition to this, you can even change the default time of WhatsApp chat backup to daily, weekly or monthly. If you choose daily all your backed-up chats will be restored before the next backup occurs at 2 am.
2. Use WhatsApp’s internal backup
To read deleted WhatsApp messages you can use the internal backup. For this you will need to follow the steps mentioned below:
- Uninstall WhatsApp.
- Head to WhatsApp database or a backup folder. Choose the backup file you wish to restore.
- Rename the from mgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt7 to mgstore.db.crypt7.
- Install WhatsApp.
- When prompted tap Restore to get deleted WhatsApp Messages.
If you plan on using this message there’s a thing you need to know, automatic backup files of WhatsApp chat history are valid for only 7 days. Therefore, if you want to keep the chat for long remember to import chat backup before its too late.
You will get the old messages but will lose the latest WhatsApp message if you have taken a backup.
Will not be able to restore WhatsApp chat if SD card or chat history is corrupted.
3. Third-Party Apps
The other way that you can take help from to read deleted WhatsApp messages is third-party apps like Notification Log. This and other apps like it can be found on Google Play Store. All these apps will help you read deleted WhatsApp messages as these apps keep a log of your notifications that are stored in the notification register of the Android system.
Note: Before you decide on using a third-party app to you must understand giving access to third-party apps on your smartphone’s notification involved major security risk.
Besides, all these apps have certain limitations like you can only recover messages deleted with which you interacted. Here, interaction means notifications that you swiped from the notification bar, viewed and performed other operations. Also, once the phone is restarted notification log gets cleared this means you will not be able to get the deleted WhatsApp messages in such cases even when you use third-party apps.
These steps might help you read deleted WhatsApp messages, but this doesn’t mean they will always help you. Further, if the recipient isn’t using the latest WhatsApp version then things can get complicated.
