Hide the System Folder “MyComputer” in the Places Bar in MS Office 2003

Places Bar is placed at the left side of Microsoft Office “Open/Save dialog” to allow the user fast access to History, Desktop, My Documents etc. This setting enables you to hide the system folder “MyComputer”.

Places Bar is placed at the left side of Microsoft Office “Open/Save dialog” to allow the user fast access to History, Desktop, My Documents etc. This setting enables you to hide the system folder “MyComputer”.

By default, the system folder “MyComputer” is shown in the “Places Bar”.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “Show”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “0” which can hide the system folder “MyComputer” in the “Places Bar”. However, if you want to get back to the original state, change the value to “1” or delete the value.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘My Computer’ icon is removed from the places bar in MS Office 2003.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type 'regedit'.

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\Open Find\Places\StandardPlaces\MyComputer\],right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name 'Show' in 'Favorites' key.

Now, right click on the DWORD value 'Show' and select 'Modify'.

Finally set the value data as '0' to hide 'My Computer' from the Places Bar in MS Office 2003.
