Disable changes in links option in general tab in Internet Explorer

This setting disables making any change in links in general tab of Internet Options dialog.

Tweak for : Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista
You can set different colors for the web sites visited and for not visited. It is individual requirement, which makes it easy to work, particularly the user, who use high-contrast color schemes. These changes can be done and seen after clicking on Links box through color button in General Tab. The changes in the registry can disable it.

For this, you have to make changes in the registry. Go to "Start->Run" and enter "regedit" and click "OK". In the registry tree, create the folder "Control Panel" if not existing. Search the key. Enter the value DWORD value for "Links". Enter the value "1" to enable the setting and "0" to disable it.

Click “OK” and close the registry editor.

Restart the system or logoff to see the changes taking effect.


Disable Links.reg

The '.reg' file will disable links changes in general tab in Internet Explorer.

The '.reg' file will enable links changes in general tab in Internet Explorer.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

Option to change "Links" is disabled.

"Links" option is enabled by default.

First, click the Start button, and select Run. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\] and create a new key "Internet Explorer".

Third, create a subkey "Control Panel" under "Internet Explorer".

Fourth, create a DWORD value "Links".

Now,right-click on "Links" and select 'Modify'.

Finally, set the "Value Data" to “1”in the textbox provided and click on 'OK'.
