Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003
Windows Firewall increases the security of the users’ system. It helps protect your computer by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer through the Internet or a network.

The Standard Profile of Windows Firewall should be used when you are working on a stand-alone PC or on a network in home or small office environment. In this case you should force that Firewall is always turned on. Turning off the Firewall may make the computer more vulnerable to viruses and intruders, since the environment is not secured.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a DWORD value “EnableFirewall” in the right panel, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can forcefully turn on Windows Firewall. However, if you want to turn the option off, change the value data to “0” or delete the value name to customize Firewall manually.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.
