Restore “Show Desktop” icon in the Quick Launch Bar.

If you have some windows open on your desktop, you can minimize all those windows with the “Show Desktop” button. If this button is not present in the Quick Launch Bar, you can create it using this setting.

If you have some windows open and want to access the Desktop with the push of a button, simply click on the “Show Desktop” icon. By default, this icon is located in the Quick Launch Bar (next to the Start button) on the Taskbar. If the icon is deleted from your Quick Launch area, you can create it using this setting.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. Now, double-click on the string value “AppData” to copy the contents of the Value data field from the dialog.

In the second step, open your Windows Explorer and paste the “Application Data” folder path in the address bar. Subsequently, browse through “Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Quick Launch” folders and here, from the “File” menu choose “New > Text Document”.

Now, copy and paste the following code in the added document file:

Save the document file as “Show Desktop.SCF” (without double-quotes).

Refresh view of your computer for the changes to take effect.

NOTE:
For Windows 2000 and advanced users, access to “Quick Launch” folder is a simple process. Simply type the path “%Appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch” in Start > Run and press Enter.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

"Show Desktop" icon is restored in "Quick Launch Bar" on the Taskbar.

"Show Desktop" icon is originally not present in the "Quick Launch Bar".

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Second, go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\] and double click on String value "Appdata".

Third, copy the default path from the Value data textbox.

Next, open Windows Explorer and paste the copied path in the address bar. The folder will look like below image. Then, subsequently click on "Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Quick Launch" folders.

The "Quick Launch" folder will look like below where the "Show Desktop" icon is not visible.

Follow the above steps to create "Show Desktop.SCF" file in "Quick Launch" folder. Finally, the icon is visible in your "Quick Launch Bar".

Show only taskbar icon of minimized applications.

If you want quick access to your “Windows Explorer”, you can add the "Windows Explorer" icon in the Quick Launch Bar. This setting enables you to create this icon.
