Hide logged in user's name at Start menu.

This setting can hide the currently logged-in user's name at the simple Start menu.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003
The currently logged in user's name is displayed at the top of simple Start menu. You can hide the same.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\Explorer” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a Dword value “NoUserNameInStartMenu” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “1” which can hide the username. However, if you want to show the name back, change the value data to “0” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Hide Username on StartMenu.reg

The '.reg' file can hide username from the Start menu.

Show Username on StartMenu (Default).reg

The '.reg' file can show username in the Start menu.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

No username is visible on top of the Start menu.

Username is visible on top of the Start menu by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\], key and create a new key with the name "Explorer" under "Policies".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoUserNameInStartMenu" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoUserNameInStartMenu" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "1" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Clear the computer names searched on a network.

Remove the “Favorites” menu item from the Start menu (For Current User).
