Hide Network Places from the Start Menu (for all users)

This tweak is use to hide\show the Network Places from the Start Menu.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista
By using this tweak you can hide\show the Network Places from the Start Menu. Also, this tweak removes the corresponding checkboxes from the Start Menu customization Control Panel.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter "regedit" and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a DWORD value "NoStartMenuNetworkPlaces", if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to "1" for hiding the Network Places. However, if you want to get back to the original state and show the Network Places, change the value to "0".

Log off or restart your system for the change to take effect.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

'My Network Places' folder is hidden from the Start menu.

'My Network Places' folder is visible in the Start menu by default.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\], key and create a new key with the name "Explorer" under "Policies".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "NoStartMenuNetworkPlaces" in "Explorer" key.

Next, right-click on "NoStartMenuNetworkPlaces" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value User "1" without quotation in the text box and click on 'OK'. Once you are done. Exit from registry. After a restart or logoff, the changes take effect.

Clear the computer names searched on a network.

Remove the “Favorites” menu item from the Start menu (For Current User).

This setting enables you to clear the recently accessed documents list on Start Menu as well as the Internet Explorer URL history, when you log off your system.
