When programs installed on your machine exceeds single-column display on Start menu, Windows uses multi-columns (2-panel or 3-panel) display to show the programs. But, with this setting you can switch back to single-column and make the Start menu programs list to scroll.

For this, go to Start > Run, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. You can create a String value “StartMenuScrollPrograms”, if this value does not exist.

Now, right-click and modify the value to “Yes” which can make Start menu programs list to scroll. However, if you want to show multi-column display back, change the value data to “No” or delete the value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.
