Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows Vista
Windows displays the most frequently accessed programs, in left panel of the new Start menu called Most Frequent List. This list makes the program accessibility comfortable for users. But, with this setting you can disable the shortcut of the utility “System Restore” in Most Frequent List of Start menu.

“System Restore” will undo the changes made to the registry and restore the registry state to an earlier date/time. “System Restore” can automatically create restore points (also called system checkpoints) when it monitors changes to the registry like installing new programs etc. System Restore is accessed by clicking on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and clicking on System Restore. “Rstrui.exe” is the executable program for this utility.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If any of the subkeys “Applications\rstrui.exe” is not present, create it as explained below. Then, create a string value “NoStartPage”, if this value does not exists, and leave the data blank. This removes the shortcut to the utility.

However, if you want to get the utility shortcut back in Start menu, delete the subkey “rstrui.exe”.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.
