Hide My Documents from Desktop (For Current User).

This setting makes you hide My Documents from the desktop.

Tweak for : Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows 2000
My Documents icon lets you save your valuable text files, reports, images, music, picture files. When it is displayed, you can decide whether this icon should appear first or not. New Start menu makes this icon appear if it is frequently used one.

For this, go to Start > Run menu, enter “regedit” and navigate to the registry path listed below. If the subkey “\ShellFolder” does not exist, create it as explained below. Then, create a Dword value “Attributes” in the right panel.

Now, right-click and modify its value to “f0500174” which can hide the icon. However, if you want to show the icon back, change the value data to “0” or delete the added value.

The changes take effect after a restart or logoff.

Hide My Documents from Desktop.reg

The '.reg' file can hide "My Documents" icon from Desktop.

Show My Documents from Desktop (Default).reg

The '.reg' file shows "My Documents" icon from Desktop.

Apply registry settings according below given steps of screenshots with related changes.

‘My Documents’ folder is hidden from the Desktop.

‘My Documents’ folder is visible by default on the Desktop.

First, click the 'Start' button, and select 'Run'. In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit".

Go to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}\] key and create a new key with the name "ShellFolder" under "{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}".

Now, right-click in the open area to create a DWORD Value with the name "Attributes" in "ShellFolder" key.

Next, right-click on "Attributes" and click on 'Modify'.

Finally, enter the value "f0500174" in the text box and click on 'OK'.

Showing Windows Version on the Desktop (For Windows 98/Me).

Enabling this option will show the Version information of Windows on the desktop and disabling the option will hide this information from desktop.

Do not save changed icon position on desktop (For All Users)

Users can change the positions of icons and place them anywhere on the desktop. Windows saves such settings even when the user logs off or restarts the system. This setting can let you disable such feature.

Prevent changes to “Active Desktop” settings.
